Mr. Solomon Siameto a 62 years old gentleman from Kenya came to us in March 2019 with breathlessness and swelling of both legs. On evaluation we found that his great artery was torn (Aortic dissection) and ballooned out to an extent of 10cm (which should normally be only 03.00cm).
Apart from that, one of his heart valve (The aortic valve) was badly leaking leading on to heart failure. He was carefully evaluated and a detailed counseling was done. Surgical correction is the only available treatment for this condition. He was subjected to a major surgery in which his damaged blood vessel was replaced by an artificial tube made of a fabric and his heart valve was repaired. Aortic valve repair procedure are technically challenging and only few are experts in such procedures like
Dr. Prashanth Vaijyanath.
His postoperative course was uneventful and he was discharged after 5 days. Normally these kinds of leaking valves are only replaced by artificial valves and once it is replaced patients have to be on close followup and they may have to take blood thinner medicines throughout the life. But in his case the valve was repaired in which case his quality of life is going to be definitely better. KMCH is equipped with one of the best cardio – thoracic surgical team under Dr. Prashanth Vaijyanath that such cutting – edge procedures are done routinely.
Saudi Arabian patient has got new Lease of life after 7 years of agony!
MR.ALSUBAIE MUNIF NAIF, a 32 years old gentleman had a terrific road traffic accident seven years ago and sustained a major hip fracture. He underwent surgery in Riyadh and unfortunately his fracture could not be fixed properly and he developed deep bone infection too. He underwent 17 repeated operations in his pelvis in Riyadh to control infection. His infection could not be controlled and he could not walk without pain as his fracture remained displaced as.
In Riyadh, the Surgeons were scared to remove the implants as they were close to the major blood vessels in the abdomen. He was left with pain and agony with a 2 inch short leg needing support all the time. His personal life was affected and his business loss was huge.
Having heard about Dr.S.GThirumalaisamy, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon in Kovai Medical Center And Hospital Limited through some patients in Saudi Arabia, he contacted KMCH through Saudi Arabian embassy and visited KMCH, Coimbatore in the month of June, 2018.
After careful examination of his case along with modern scans, Dr.Thirumalaisamy, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon recommended him two stage operations. Firstly he underwent implant removal and application of antibiotic loaded pellets to control the infection last year. This was very successful and his infection was well controlled. Mr. ALSUBAIE MUNIF NAIF returned to KMCH again this year to undergo reconstructive Hip replacement with special implants as well as adding bone stock to his native bone deficient acetabulum. His limb length was corrected and all wounds healed with complete relief of pain and regained his normal walking pattern.
Mr.Munif delighted with the success of this complicated surgery and returned back to his home country very happily and has begun a new joyful life in Saudi Arabia
