Dr A S Thennavan has completed his undergraduate MBBS from Government Stanley Medical College in 1994. He went to London for his higher studies after passing the qualifying PLAB test . He did his initial surgical training from Manchester rotation then moved to Glasgow for his higher specialised orthopaedic training until 2004. During his training he did the joint replacement fellowship in Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow and underwent a part time MPhil programme in Bio engineering department from Strathclyde University, Glasgow. From 2004 onwards he was working as a Consultant in Joint replacement surgery and Arthroscopy surgery in Golden Jubilee National Hospital and Royal Alexandria Hospital. During his training he had the opportunities to work with few stalwarts on ortho such as George Bennet ( founder of BPOS ) , Tim Hems ( author of Brachial Plexus injury in OTO ), David Alan ( director of Scottish joint registry ). He has obtained FRCS general and FRCS trauma and orthopaedics from the prestigious Royal college of Surgeons Edinburgh. During his consultant tenure, he was involved in image free computer navigation in Knee replacement surgery and mainly focused on primary , complex knee replacement surgeries, Uni compartmental knee replacement surgery and hip replacements. He developed special interest in arthroscopy of knee , ankle , shoulder and elbow joints. He returned to India in 2008 and continuing as consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital with special interest in Primary and revision knee and hip replacement surgeries. He is also doing joint arthroscopy surgeries involving knee, ankle and shoulder.

Since then he worked as Consultant in Orthopedics in Glasgow. He has returned to India in 2008 and working in KMCH as Consultant at present.
