Dr. Mathew Cherian is a globally recognized pioneer in Interventional Radiology with 35 years of clinical experience. As the Chief of Radiology Services, he has transformed the department into a premier center for advanced vascular and neuro-interventional care. He is considered an industry luminary and a prolific academician, having delivered more than 500 invited guest lectures in India and internationally.

Academic Qualifications

  • Basic Medical Degree (MBBS): MKCG Medical College.
  • Primary Radiology Qualification (MD): JIPMER.
  • Advanced Certifications (PDCC): SCTIMST.

Additional Fellowships: FNCC (International/Visiting Fellowship).

Dr. Cherian specializes in high-precision neuro-interventional procedures and is credited with several medical “firsts” in Asia and India.

Primary Clinical Focus: Neurointervention 

Major Procedures Performed:

  • Neuro-Vascular: Aneurysm coiling, stenting, Flow diverter placement, and AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) embolization.
  • Stroke Management: Advanced stroke therapy, Carotid stenting, and ICAD stenting.
  • Specialized Embolization: MMA (Middle Meningeal Artery) embolization.

Pioneering Contributions:

  • Mobile Stroke Unit: Introduced the first Mobile Stroke Unit in Asia, revolutionizing hyper-acute stroke care.
  • CO2 Angiography: First to introduce CO2 Angiography in India.
  • Technical Innovation: Created the Modified Pressure Cooker Technique for controlled embolization.
